The most well-known benefit of volunteering is the impact felt by the local community. Donating your time can help you to connect with like-minded citizens and make society a better place. Helping out with the smallest tasks can make a big difference. Volunteering means that you will be repaid with positive feelings and fulfillment. It can also help you make new friends, expand your network, and boost your social skills.

The Sherrif’s Advisory Foundation is a nonprofit organization, but it functions like a business. Our organization practices teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and task management. Throughout the years I have found that I have had the most fun when I volunteer my special talent. I love to organize! This is why I have served as the chair for the Annual Fundraiser for 10 years running. I also found myself drawn to the role of Board Secretary where I helped to orchestrate the interworkings of the foundation.

During my time on the SAF Board, I had the privilege of working under Dan Cashier, who served as our Executive Director for over 18 years. As he was nearing retirement I expressed my interest in the role and he helped to guide me through the next steps. Now that my leadership responsibilities have increased, I realize how important it is to find the next generation of leaders. An army of organizers and helpers that can carry the baton further and leave a lasting legacy on our community.

Currently, we need a Board Secretary and soon we will need new legal counsel. Do you have any special talents like decorating, organizing, being great in the kitchen, setting up displays, creating newsletters, designing, marketing, or sales?  Those are all talents the Foundation needs to keep running smoothly.
