Sheriff’s Advisory Foundation Launches First Annual Dan Cashier Memorial Golf Tournament
by Renee Osborne
The Sheriff’s Advisory Foundation is introducing a new way to bring the community together in support of local law enforcement with the launch of its first annual Dan Cashier Memorial Golf Tournament, scheduled for October 3, 2026, at Cypress Ridge Golf Course.
The tournament marks a shift in the Foundation’s approach to fundraising. Chairman Jeff Nichols noted that attendance at the organization’s traditional annual fundraiser had begun to decline, prompting leadership to explore new ways to engage the community and sustain support for the Sheriff’s Office.
“This is an opportunity to try something different while continuing to bring people together around a shared purpose,” Nichols said.
For Executive Director Renee Osborne, the tournament also presented an opportunity to honor someone who played a defining role in the Foundation’s history.
Dan Cashier served as the Foundation’s Executive Director for more than 25 years and was known for his deep commitment to both the organization and the community. According to Osborne, the idea to name the tournament in his honor came naturally.
“We had decided to move forward with a golf tournament, and I kept thinking about Dan,” Osborne said. “I saw him at our last fundraiser—he was so happy to be there, and I was so glad to see him. He always talked about getting back out on the golf course someday.”
Osborne shared that Cashier had a lasting enthusiasm for golf and often spoke about returning to the game.
“Since he can’t be with us for this next fundraiser, we wanted to honor him in a way that reflects something he truly loved,” she said. “We know he would have been excited to see this come together.”
The Dan Cashier Memorial Golf Tournament is open to both golfers and sponsors, offering an opportunity for individuals and businesses to participate in a day of golf while supporting a meaningful cause.
Proceeds from the event will benefit programs that support local law enforcement, including training, equipment, and educational opportunities for deputies and personnel throughout the region.
As the Foundation prepares for its first tournament, organizers hope the event will become a lasting tradition—one that continues to bring the community together while honoring Cashier’s legacy of service and leadership.
