The story of Crime Stoppers started on September 8, 1976, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, after a 20-year-old college student, working a morning shift at a gas station, was shot, and killed during a robbery.

The SLO County Sheriff’s Rodeo was created to promote community togetherness, law enforcement and the western way of life. Sheriff Parkinson and everyone involved wanted to create a family-friendly event that’s economical to attend.

The Citizen Academy provides members of the community an inside look at the Sheriff’s Office and all facets of law enforcement. You may be surprised to learn we have approximately 450 people at the Sheriff’s Office who work across almost 40 divisions and units.

The Sheriff’s Search and Rescue units have been assisting the Sheriff’s Office for decades in various roles. One of those roles was to assist California State Parks during Holiday Weeks ends with medical assistance and general visibility for the public. During Memorial Day weekend of 2009 we lost one of our members to a very tragic accident on one of our 4-wheel quad vehicles as he was responding to a medical aid call.
